Basic Man Set All of the sets in this offense start in a 2 - 3 formation. This offense is made up of two guards, two forwards, and a center. This offense should be practiced and run on both the left and right sides of the floor. |
Basic Man Set #1 passes to #3 #1 cuts toward the block and then out to the corner. #2 v-cuts to the top and receives a pass back from #3. |
Basic Man Set After receiving the pass from #3, #2 dribbles left. #5 goes to set a screen for #4 #4 v-cuts to the block and then comes off #5's screen. #2 passes to #4 #4 shoots the 3 pointer if open #5 moves down to the block #3 starts his move toward the elbow and #1 moves up to the wing. |
Basic Man Set If #4 has no shot, he looks to #5 in the post. #2 cuts through to the opposite corner. #4 reverses the ball to #3 who has now come to the top of the circle. |
Basic Man Set #3 then dribbles right and passes to #1. #5 backscreens #3. If open, #1 hits #3 for a lay-up. If #3 is not open, #5 moves to the elbow area. |
Basic Man Set #1 passes to #5 at the elbow. #1 then v-cuts to the basket for a backdoor pass. It is very important for #1 to take two hard steps at #5 adn then cut backdoor. If that is not open, #2 v-cuts off #5 for a hand-off. #4 downscreens for #3. #2 passes to #3 for an open three-pointer. |
Basic Man Set If #3 has not shot: #2 v-cuts toward the basket and then pops out, this allows #5 to screen #2's defender. #1 pops out to the wing. #4 goes to the corner. #3 passes to #2 and shoots a three-ponter or uses #5's screen to get to the basket. |
Basic Man Set If #2 is stopped, he passes out to #1 for a three-pointer. #2 then heads to the corner and #5 to the middle of the free throw line. |
Basic Man Set If #1 has no shot, he dribbles to the top. #3 moves to the top. #2 and #4 come up to the wings. #1 passes to #3. You are now back at the beginning where you can reset the offense and start again. They also have two other sets from this alignment called the "Chin Set" and the "Shuffle Set" as well as some counters to the basic set. We will look at these in future newsletters. |
