Dribble motion backdoors
1) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 2"

Your players must know their numbers and on what side of the floor those numbers are on.  After that, it really isn't that difficult to call  these sets and get qood backdoor lay-ups.

This is our simplest play, called "Drop 2".  The term "drop" in the dribble motion offense refers to the elbow area of the FT line.  "Drop 2" would be the right side or right elbow and "Drop 3" would be the same play just at the left side or left elbow.

On "Drop 2", #1 drives the ball hard and picks up his dribble in the drop zone.  #2 sets his man up and then cuts back door.  #5's rule is to cut up to the opposite high post elbow whenever the ball is picked up at the "drop zone" or FT line elbow area.

#4 follows behind the penetration from #1.
2) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 2"

If #2 is not open for the backdoor, he will continue his cut to the opposite corner while #3 slides up to the wing.

#1 will then pass to #5 and run a blur screen to the opposite low block area.

#5 drives the ball hard off the back of #1 to the cleared out side of the floor for the lay-up.

Again, we could run the same play on the opposite side of the floor and it would be called "Drop 3".  The point guard can start Drop 2 or 3 from either side.  If he is on the 2 side of the floor, he would simply cross his dribble over and attack the appropriate drop zone elbow area.
3) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 23"

Now we add one more drive to the play.  We can also run this play from the other side of the floor, and it would be called...you guessed it...."Drop 32".

#1 drives to the basket while #2 sprints up to the high wing area.  Normal action in the Dribble Motion Offense.

This is the "2" part of the "Drop 23" play.
4) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 23"

Now #2 drives the ball to the 3-side of the floor, hence the "Drop 23" play call.  Again, "Drop referring to the player driving the the elbow or "drop zone".

#2 drives the ball to the left elbow, picks up his dribble while #3 sets his man up for the back door cut.

#4 cuts to the opposite side of the floor on penetration from the wing as does #5.

On the elbow dribble pick-up, #5's rule is to cut up to the opposite FT line elbow area.
5) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 23"

We would repeat the same action at the end of the play as in Drop 2 or Drop 3.

If #3 does not get the backdoor pass he will continue his cut to the corner while #1 slides up to the wing.

#2 hits #5 and runs a blur screen to the opposite low block area while #5 drives off the back of #2 on the cleared out side of the floor for the power lay-up.
6) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 24"

Now we will involve our 4-man in the backdoor.

We call this Drop 24 or could also be run on the opposite side of the floor and be called Drop 34, which of course by now you know!

#1 drives to the rack and kicks the ball out to #2 filling up on the sprint to the high wing area.  #1 passes to #2 and cuts to the corner.
7) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 24"

#2 now attacks the elbow area on the dribble.  #5's rules is to ALWAYS slide across the lane on penetration from the wing.

When #2 penetrates, #5 slides across.

#4 steps toward the ball, sets his man up and then cuts backdoor for the lay-up.

This would conclude the play and would get back into our dribble motion rules if he did not receive the pass.

As a reminder, the same play could be run from the other side of the floor, called Drop 34 and could start from either side of the court, as long as the point guard brought the ball first to the "3" side of the floor on the drive to begin.
8) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 234"

When you get really good.....now you can use the 3-number backdoor plays.  I'm sure in your head you can already picture what this would be.  I know our players can, simply by knowing what side of the floor the numbers are on and what numbers each player has.

This play starts with #1 again driving in the "2" side gap while #2 sprints up high on the wing.
9) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 234"

#2 now drives the ball into the lane looking to score and the kicks the ball out to #3 sprinting up high on the wing.

#5 slides across the lane as soon as #2 started his penetration.  #4 slides across the top on #4's penetration.
10) Dribble Motion Offense

Backdoor Calls - "Drop 234"

Now #3 drives the ball at the "drop zone" or FT line elbow area.

#5 slides across as soon as #3 starts his penetration.

#4 sets his man up and cuts backdoor for the lay-up.

Same play opposite side of the floor....say it with me....."Drop 324".
