Playname : Memphis

Memphis (set play vs. man defense)

This is a set play we like to use when we want to get a player into the offensive action, especially inside. We would call Memphis and then add the player's name at the end. "Memphis for Johnson".

"Johnson" would be the first player on the stack screen on top. In this diagram he is #3. You have to be able to get quickly into this alignment on the call of "Memphis" and the player's name.

The best perimeter shooter should be on the same side as the point guard. Here we see #2 as our best shooter. Any player can take the #4 and #5 spots.

#1 takes the ball over the top of the double screen from #3 and #4. #1's first option would be to turn the corner and look to drive to the basket. As #1 is coming off the double screen, #5 is sliding up to set a back screen on #3's defender. The next look would be for #1 to look into the post for #3.

If #3 was not open, #5 and #4 are immediately setting a double screen away for your shooter #2. #1 looks to hit #2 on the top of the key.

If #2 does not have a shot, #4 and #5 continue their double screen action down to the left low block looking to set a double screen for #3. #2 looks to hit #3 on the left wing if he is open.

Memphis (set play vs. man defense)

(teaching point) As soon as #3 comes off the double screen on the left low block area, the top man in the double screen (#4) will "pinch down" and #5 will cut right off his back looking for the post entry pass from #2.

If #3 receives the ball, we will immediately set a triple screen away on #1's defender. #1 has the option to cut off the triple screen either high or low, depending upon how he is being played. While these four defenders are being occupied with the triple screen action, #3 has the option to attack the basket.
