Mikan Drill

The Mikan Drill has been around forever...and there is a reason. It is a simple, effective drill for helping your post players with their footwork and touch around the basket (as well as developing both hands).

Player works on a baby hook with his right hand and left hand from side to side. Ball does not touch the floor and should not be brought down below his shoulders when taking the ball out of the net.

A good high leg kick is recommended as well as a nice extension of the shooting arm and high release. It should look smooth from side to side with a "one step and shot" motion, rebound out of the net, and "one step and shot" in the other direction with the opposite hand.

I have my players "make" 10 shots and the other player steps in right away. After players make 20 total, we move on to the next pre-practice drill.
