UCONN Half Court Offense

UCONN uses a 1 - 4 high offense as one of their continuity offenses. First we will look at the options involved when the ball is entered to one of the wings (#2 or #3).

(#4 and #5) flash to the high post area.

(#1) enters to the wing player (#2).

After (#2) gets the ball, (#5) cuts to the ball side low block.

(#4 and #1) double screen away for (#3) looking for a jump shot at the top of the key.

They will get into their motion offense from here.

Now we will look at the options involved when the ball is entered to one of the high post players (#4 or #5).

Here we see the point guard (#1) enter the ball to (#5) flashing into the high post area.

Once (#1) hits (#5), he cuts hard to the basket looking for a hand off or back door pass from (#5). (#1) can go around (#5) in either direction, depending on how he is being defended.

(#5) has two option here if (#1) is not open cutting to the basket. Let's look at the options involved if he passes to the opposite wing player (#2).

After he makes the pass to (#2), the (#4) man slides down and sets a cross screen on (#1) in the lane.

(#2) can then hit (#1) coming off the screen to the corner or hit the (#4) man who has just set the screen and is rolling back to the basketball in the paint.

Now lets look at the offensive options if the ball is passed to (#3) on the ball side wing.

After (#5) enters the ball to (#3), (#1) sets a diagonal back screen on (#4), cutting to the block. (#3) will look to (#4) on the block.

(#5) will set a down screen on (#1), completing the "pick the picker" action, bringing (#1) to the top of the key for the jump shot.

Here we see (#1) coming off of the down screen from (#5) to the top.

(#5) will then move the block and UCONN will continue with this offense or begin running their motion offense.
