Zone Offense (X Post Shooting)

The drill starts with two passers on top (could be your players, managers or coaches).

The ball is passed across the top. The ball side low post steps out to the short corner while the opposite post flashes to the high post.

The passer has three options here.

  • He can hit the post in the short corner
  • He can hit the post flashing into the high post
  • Or he can reverse the ball back to the opposite side without making a post entry pass

If the player in the short corner receives the pass he can:

  • Use the drop step moved described earlier in our short corner break down shooting drill
  • Or he can look to hit the high post man who has dived to the basket looking for the basketball or rebound position on the opposite side of the basket.

If the high post player receives the pass he can:

  • Take the jump shot at the elbow
  • Or he can look to hit the low post man who is stepping in and looking for post position.

Note: The low post man in the short corner should look to get low block position as the ball is in flight to the high post (not after he receives it in the high post).

No matter who receives the ball or who takes the shot, the drill is continued to the other side by the coach passing another basketball across the top with the post players exchanging positions.

If a shot was taken, simply get the ball out of the net and back out to the coach and continue to the drill to the other side.
