DON'T DESPAIR....COACHING IS THE GREATEST PROFESSION ON THE PLANET!

Some thoughts from legendary coach Bud Presley.

"Kids see through a phony in 2 seconds. They want somebody to set limits for them. They are crying for somebody to make them physically and mentally as good as they can be. They want somebody to make them work hard. They want somebody to teach them the glory and thrill of an all out effort. But if you are going to be demanding and get those kids to die for you out there, you better hug them off the floor, you'd better be concerned about their lives and you better give them love.

Coaching can be discouraging at times, but it's far more rewarding and deeply satisfying. Kids are naive, they are variable, they are sometimes obstinate and incomprehensible. But they are also warm, flexible, loyal and incurably optimistic. They lift us up when we are down, they deify us when we and all are peers know we have feet of clay (full of sh*&%!), and they constantly reaffirm our faith in the innate goodness of man. No matter how much we give of ourselves to our kids, we can never match by half what they give us in return.

We tend to belly ache and despair at times. Some of us are petty and belittle our fellow coaches and all of us by necessity are a little insane. But we should count our blessings because we are in the coaching profession and are the most fortunate people on the face of the earth."

THOUGHTS FOR THE MONTH

Quotes from Yanni's book,

"My father once said, 'If the whole world wants to go left and you feel like going right, go right. You don't have to follow. You don't have to make a big deal about which way you're going. Just go. It's very easy'."

"The less you want, the richer you are. The more you need in order to be happy, the more miserable you'll be."

"My father taught me that one of the most important abilities in life is to be able to take the pain and persevere, and for years this lesson had served me well."

"It's only by living that you grow old." Yanni's Mom

"The most important battle is one to conquer yourself."

"I don't want problems solved for me. I want the fishing rod, not the fish."

"You need a mind open to possibility, conditioned to love the creative spirit we all have inside ourselves."

"Whether a person is spiritual or not, we all seek to get away from the stress, anger, and anxiety of everyday life. Some people drink, do drugs, or do worse to escape, and they hurt themselves in the process. Some people listen to music, mine included, and feel better."

"I don't dwell in the past; I don't wallow in old events and emotions. I don't waste time on regret. No use going over and over the details of what already happened."

"You do good work for a long-enough time, I believed, and you'd get noticed."

"I believe we're responsible for everything that happens to us."

"No matter what happens in life, never lose sight of who you are."

Believe while others…. By William Arthur Ward

Believe while others are doubting.

Plan while others are playing.

Study while others are sleeping.

Decide while others are delaying.

Prepare while others are daydreaming.

Begin while others are procrastinating.

Work while others are wishing.

Save while others are wasting.

Listen while others are talking.

Smile while others are frowning.

Commend while others are criticizing.

Persist while others are quitting.
